Faraday rotator mirror ( FRM) is an optical passive device that uses Faraday Effect to rotate the polarization state of input light and then output it.

Faraday Effect refers to the phenomenon that the vibration surface of polarized light will rotate under the action of magnetic field when light propagates in the medium. This rotation is independent of the propagation direction of light. Faraday rotator is an important part of FRM, it is based on Faraday Effect.

How the FRM to work:

The input light is emitted from the optical fiber and converted into parallel light through the collimator, the parallel light rotates the polarization direction of light by 45 degrees through Faraday rotator, and then after the reflection of the mirror, it rotates 45 degrees through the Faraday rotator again, so that the polarization direction rotates 90 degrees. Finally, it is coupled and output to the optical fiber through the collimator.
