Difference between RJ45 Connector and RJ11 Connector
日期:2020-12-03

The RJ45 plug and RJ11 plug are transparent connectors that can be inserted in a fixed direction and can automatically prevent falling off. In the industry, the plug connected to the network is called "RJ45 connector", and the plug connected to the telephone is called "RJ11 connector". One is used for digital signal and the other is used for analog signal . The two kinds of connectors cannot be exchanged. Here's why we can't mix the two connectors.

RJ45 Connectors

RJ45 connector is a kind of information socket connector in wiring system. it has 8 contacts and 8 pins (as shown in the figure), which is represented as 8p8c. RJ45 is mainly used for digital terminal equipment (PC card, Ethernet card) and digital communication equipment (Ethernet switch). TIA / EIA standard divides the wire sequence of RJ45 and twisted pair termination into two standards: T568A and T568B. In order to achieve the best compatibility, T568B is mostly used for wiring.

RJ11 Connector

RJ11 connector is a universal analog signal telephone connector. It is the common name of a connector first developed by Western Electronics Company of the United States. The RJ11 connectors has six connects, two less than RJ45. Since RJ11 is not mentioned in the general generic cabling standard, the current name is confused. When all six contacts are occupied, it is expressed as 6P6C, also known as RJ14, which is used for the connection between communication modules and is rarely used at present; When occupying four contacts, it is indicated as 6P4C, also known as RJ25, which is often used for the connection between Group phones, the matching cable colors are black, red, green and yellow. Occupying two contacts (6P2C) is used for the connection between ordinary telephones, it is the most common analog telephone interface at present. At present, there is no written standards and specifications for the wire sequence of RJ11, as long as the wire sequence of RJ11 connector at both ends of the same patch cord is consistent.

The above describes the wire sequence and application of RJ45 and RJ11. The following continues to introduce the conductor material and connector material.

Conductor Material

The metal conductor materials used in the RJ11/RJ45 connectors include bare copper (BC), tinned copper (TC), copper clad steel (CS), copper clad aluminum (CCA) and copper clad aluminum magnesium (CCAM). Among so many materials, only BC meets the standards of all kinds of generic cabling, because the resistance of BC is small. In practical application, nickel or gold plating will be applied on the surface of copper to prevent copper oxidation and enhance the hardness of copper.

Connector Housing Material

The common materials of unshielded connector are PC and PE. The shielded connector is covered with a metal (mostly zinc alloy) shell on the PC material.

When the RJ11 and RJ45 connector are made into patch cord, there are three ways: injection molding, crimping and non-crimping.

Injection molding RJ11/RJ45 Connector

The connector is connected with the copper cable through the injection molding machine at one time. The patch cord length is of fixed , cannot be changed.

Crimping RJ11/RJ45 Connector

Crimping connector is generally used in the process of engineering construction, adding the connector after the cable has been laid. The RJ45 patch cord made by crimping can also add corresponding boot to protect the cable. When the crimping RJ45 connector is used for cat7 , there is one more strand oscillator than the ordinary RJ45 connector. The main reason is that the wire core of cat7 is thick, and the copper cable is not tiled on the connector, but staggered up and down.

Non-crimping RJ11/RJ45 Connector

Compared with the Crimping connector, the non-crimping has one more strand oscillator. When in use, put the wire core into the strand oscillator according to the wire sequence, reduce the excess wire core, put the strand oscillator into the RJ45 connector, and then close the housing. It should be noted that non-crimping RJ45 Connector is mostly used to adapt to cat7 cable.
