What are the basic points to consider when selecting fiber optic patch cords?
日期:2024-04-19 05:50:29
Fiber optic patch cords are used as jumper cables in fiber optic cabling systems, connecting equipment to the fiber optic distribution network. They feature a thick protective layer and are commonly employed for connections between optical terminals and terminal boxes. These patch cords find applications in various fields including fiber optic communication systems, fiber optic access networks, fiber optic data transmission, and local area networks (LANs).

1、Connector Types

Common connector types for fiber optic patch cords include SC/UPC, SC/APC, FC/UPC, FC/APC, LC/UPC, LC/APC, ST/UPC, ST/APC, and E2000/APC. The choice of connectors should align with the interface types of the connected devices. It is recommended to opt for connectors made from new materials, as those made from recycled materials may experience reduced stability after repeated insertions and removals, and are more susceptible to damage over extended periods of use.

2、Insertion Loss

The insertion loss of the connector is typically ≤0.3dB. For applications with higher loss requirements, connectors with ≤0.2dB or ≤0.1dB insertion loss can be selected, but they usually come at a higher price.

3、Return Loss

Typically, the requirements for return loss are UPC ≥ 50dB, APC ≥ 60dB, and multimode ≥ 35dB. For applications with higher parameter requirements, corresponding higher parameters can be selected, but the price will also increase accordingly.

4、Length

Choose the appropriate length based on the requirements of the wiring project.

5、Fiber Type

Single-mode fiber includes standard G652D as well as bend-resistant G657A1 and G657A2. For higher bend radius requirements, G657A1 or G657A2 can be chosen, with G657A1 having a minimum bend radius of 10mm and G657A2 having a minimum bend radius of 7.5mm. Multimode fiber includes OM1 (62.5/125um), OM2 (50/125um), OM3, OM4, and OM5. The selection of multimode fiber should be based on the optical module being connected.

6、Fiber Count

Standard fiber optic patch cords are available in single-core and dual-core configurations. Choose according to the wiring scenario being used.

7、Cable Outer Diameter

The available outer diameters are 0.9mm, 2.0mm, and 3.0mm. A larger outer diameter provides better cable protection and tensile strength. Additionally, consider the constraints of the wiring space.

8、Outer Sheath Material

PVC or LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) can be chosen. Consider whether flame-retardant properties are required based on project specifications.
