About the mysteries of MPO fiber patch cords, how much have you mastered?
日期:2024-04-23 06:06:05
MPO fiber patch cords, with the advantages of multi-core, small size, and high transmission rates, play an important role in the field of optical communication, especially suitable for meeting the high-density cabling requirements of data centers. Now, let's comprehensively and systematically introduce the relevant knowledge of MPO.

01 What is MPO?

MPO (Multi-fiber Push On) fiber patch cords consist of connectors and optical cables, serving as a high-density fiber transmission solution. The MPO connector is part of the MT series connectors, characterized by multi-core, multi-channel capabilities, with precise alignment design for the ferrules. MPO fiber patch cord products mainly include MPO trunk fiber patch cords, MPO branch fiber patch cords, and MPO fan-out fiber patch cords.

02 What are the common core counts for MPO?

The most common core counts for MPO are 12 cores, 16 cores, and 24 cores.

In 40G networks, 12-core MPO fiber patch cords are typically used, while in 100G networks, 24-core MPO fiber patch cords are employed. The 16/32-core MPO fiber connectors are the optimal solution for low-latency, ultra-high-speed transmission in 400G networks.

03 What do MPO male and female connectors mean?

MPO fiber connectors consist of fiber, sheath, coupling components, metal rings, pins, dust caps, etc. The male connector contains two pins, while the female connector does not.

The connection between MPO connectors is achieved through precise alignment of the pins. When docking, you should hear a "click" to ensure it locks with the adapter securely.

04 MPO Three Types of Polarity:

Type A: The fiber cores at both ends of the patch cord are arranged in the same order, meaning core 1 on one end corresponds to core 1 on the other end, and core 12 on one end corresponds to core 12 on the other end. The key orientations at both ends are opposite, with key up on one end corresponding to key down on the other end.

Type B: The fiber cores at both ends of the patch cord are arranged in reverse order, meaning core 1 on one end corresponds to core 12 on the other end, and core 12 on one end corresponds to core 1 on the other end. The key orientations at both ends are the same, with key up on one end corresponding to key up on the other end, and key down corresponding to key down.

Type C: Type C MPO patch cords have adjacent pairs of fiber cores crossing positions, meaning core 1 on one end corresponds to core 2 on the other end, and core 12 on one end corresponds to core 11 on the other end. The key orientations at both ends are also opposite, with key up on one end corresponding to key down on the other end.

06 Advantages of MPO Fiber Patch Cords:

1) Small size, increasing wiring aperture, improving wiring density, and saving space.
(2) Modular design, plug-and-play, saving time and effort.
(3) Suitable for various configuration requirements, meeting diverse wiring needs.
(4) Possess excellent optical and mechanical performance, reducing insertion loss in high-speed network environments.

MPO fiber connectors and fiber patch cords provide a simple and easy-to-manage fiber cabling solution, widely used in FTTH and data centers requiring high-density integrated fiber lines.
